Hier soir, à l’occasion du Nouvel An, mes amis et moi sommes sortis pour fêter. La soirée se déroulait relativement bien jusqu’au moment où l’une de mes amies a manifestement trop bu et nous a fait comprendre qu’elle avait urgemment besoin de vomir et de se soulager. Elle perdait connaissance et se sentait très mal. Nous l’avons immédiatement aidée et accompagnée vers les toilettes de ce bar. La file était très longue. En arrivant à proximité des toilettes, nous sommes tombées sur les barmans. L’un d’eux, un homme grand, aux cheveux bruns nous a parlé en néerlandais d’un ton hostile et méprisant, affirmant qu’il ne voulait pas « d’étrangers » dans son établissement. L’une de mes amies, la seule à parler néerlandais, lui a expliqué calmement mais fermement que notre amie était malade et avait besoin d’un accès urgent aux toilettes. Une dispute a éclaté. Pendant cet échange, mon amie a perdu totalement connaissance. À ce moment-là, un autre serveur est arrivé et s’est mis à nous hurler dessus en menaçant d’appeler la police. Je lui ai répondu « appelez-la », car je savais que nous n’étions absolument pas en tort. Nous demandions simplement l’accès aux toilettes pour venir en aide à une personne en détresse médicale. Payer une ou plusieurs consommations n’a jamais été un problème. Nous avons été traitées de manière violente et inhumaine. Nous avons dû rebrousser chemin et chercher désespérément un autre endroit pour qu’elle puisse vomir, se soulager, et attendre l’ambulance qui a finalement été appelée. Je ne comprends sincèrement pas ce comportement. Tout établissement digne de ce nom se soucie de sa réputation et aurait, a minima, coopéré, fait preuve d’humanité, de bienveillance et de respect. Mon amie est d’origine asiatique, je suis d’origine africaine, et ce que j’ai vécu hier m’a profondément choquée. Le niveau de xénophobie et de racisme auquel nous avons été confrontées est inacceptable, et je ne compte pas en rester là. J’ai demandé à plusieurs reprises le nom du serveur concerné, sans succès, ce qui n’est guère surprenant. Quoi qu’il en soit, je ne recommanderai jamais ce bar à qui que ce soit. Les serveurs y sont froids, austères, agressifs et méprisants. Ils affichent un complexe de supériorité totalement déplacé. Aucune humanité, aucune empathie, aucune conscience et surtout, aucune dignité. ANGLAIS/ENGLISH Last night, on New Year’s Eve, my friends and I went out to celebrate. The evening was going relatively well until one of my friends clearly drank too much and urgently told us she needed to vomit. She was losing consciousness and felt extremely unwell. We immediately helped her and escorted her to the bathrooms of this bar. The line for the toilets was very long. As we approached, we encountered the bartenders. One of them, a tall, brown-haired man spoke to us in Dutch with a hostile and dismissive tone, stating that he did not want “outsiders” in his establishment. One of my friends, the only one who speaks Dutch, calmly but firmly explained that our friend was sick and urgently needed access to the toilets. An argument followed. During this exchange, my friend lost consciousness completely. At that moment, another bartender arrived and began shouting at us, threatening to call the police. I replied, “Call them,” because I knew we were not doing anything wrong. We were simply asking to use the toilets to help a friend in medical distress. Paying for one or several drinks was never an issue. The way we were treated was inhumane and violent. We were forced to leave and desperately search for another place where my friend could vomit, regain some stability, and wait for the ambulance that was eventually called. I genuinely do not understand this behavior. Any establishment that values its reputation would have at least pretended to cooperate, shown basic humanity, compassion, and respect. My friend is of Asian descent, I am of African descent, and what I experienced last night deeply shocked me. The level of xenophobia and racism we faced was blatant and unacceptable, and I do not intend to let this go. I asked several times for the name of the bartender involved, but unsurprisingly, he seemed unable, or unwilling, to provide it. In any case, I will never recommend this bar to anyone. The staff is cold, hostile, contemptuous, and deeply lacking in empathy. They display a superiority complex that has no justification. No humanity, no compassion, no conscience — and above all, no dignity.
